I'm a Melomaniac

I have a playlist called ROJAK. That should tell you everything and nothing at all.

I have a playlist called ROJAK. I made it myself. It's exactly what it sounds like... everything mixed in together, no genre rules, no theme. Just whatever I needed at that moment, thrown in.

Lorde. Jaymes Young. Lana Del Rey. Indonesian indie. Coldplay sometimes. Tool sometimes. BMTH when rage is the last resort. Chase Atlantic for modern ranting, the kind of feeling you can't put into a normal sentence. The playlist doesn't have a consistent genre because that was never the point. It has whatever I needed that day.

They don't cancel each other out. They just belong to different versions of the same day. And all of them go through one pair of headphones.

I researched before I bought. Most people reach for Sony or Bose, those are the names you see everywhere. But Sennheiser isn't really targeting mass users. It's for people who know what audiophile means. Most professional singers use it. That told me enough.

When I lie down and put them on, it makes me go somewhere else. Even though my body is still on the bed. That's what I was looking for. Not specs. That feeling.

Polyphia especially. Tim Henson specifically... I don't play guitar, never have, but I will sit and watch him play for a long time and not get bored once. I don't understand everything he's doing. I just know it's fascinating, the way it sounds like it shouldn't be possible but it is.

I'd like to own his signature guitar one day. Maybe from there, eventually learn. That's how it starts. Sometimes you get attached to the object before the skill.

But then there's the music I don't put on in the background. The kind that needs the right time, the right mood. Hindia lives there, and that's a whole other story.
